Ego, Self-Importance, and Resistance
Feb 04, 2026The ego thrives on separation.
It misidentifies who we are with:
-
the body
-
achievements
-
possessions
-
reputation
From this misidentification arises self-importance — the belief that we are personally offended by the way the world is.
The Cost of Being Offended
Self-importance feeds on offense. It requires us to believe the world should conform to our expectations.
This stance quietly restricts possibility.
As Wayne Dyer framed it: are we acting as host to what’s possible — or held hostage by ego?
Letting Go as Liberation
Releasing the need to:
-
be right
-
win
-
appear superior
-
manage reputation
is not a loss of power.
It is a return to alignment.
