GRACE by Murray Hidary

May 23, 2025

What is Grace?
Where do you find Grace?

Is it an effortlessness?
Is it the ballet dancer?
A gently swaying willow in the afternoon wind?
A soaring soprano.
a mother comforting her child.

Maybe it is all of these and yet,
it’s more, isn’t it?

Maybe Grace is found in
the way we love,
the way we listen,
a tender touch.
The way we move through grief;
getting up when we least want to.

Maybe Grace sometimes needs the messy for it to arise, to be felt.

Grace is present before we recognize it.
Grace accepts even when we don’t.
Grace forgives when we don’t forgive ourselves.
Especially when we don’t forgive ourselves.
Grace heals.
Grace is both bestowed and born within us.
We cannot hold Grace and grievance in one hand.

Grace is a letting go.

Letting go
of hurt
of need
of trying
of desperation
of fear
of not having enough
of not being enough.

Letting go.
With your whole body.
With your whole being.
And in this way Grace
offers a freedom.

While Grace travels the high road it also knows where the road started.
Where do you turn to during your darkest hour?
Sometimes Grace sees a farther horizon with eyes closed.

In the soft, twilight hour,
when the sun dips low and the world holds its breath,
there is a whisper that dances on the edge.
It moves silently,
threading its way through the tapestry of our lives,
a gentle reminder of the divine woven into the ordinary.

What is it to move through life with Grace?

Being Grace
Giving Grace
Receiving Grace.

May we have Grace with our parents;
in their presence and in their passing.
May we have Grace with our children;
in their cheer and in their challenge.
May we have Grace in life
and May we have Grace in death.

In this silent communion,
not when no words are available,
rather, when all words are
and none are chosen.

The universe wants to love you.
The universe wants to love you.
The universe just wants to love you,
if you’ll let it.

There is no distance.
There is no distance.
There is no distance to the divine.

Grace is weightless yet grounded.
Grace is light yet knows the dark.
Grace is freeing yet understands suffering.
Grace is effortless yet difficult.
Grace is eternal yet knows the ephemeral.
Grace forgives.
Grace absolves.

After the hurt
After the pain
After the anger
After the rage
After the sadness
After the struggle
After the giving up
There’s a giving in.
A dissolution.
Resistance relaxing.
A reunion.
As the past and future fade
and we’re left right here.
With what is.
And we see how beautiful it is.
How magical it is.
How wonderful it is.
How fragile it is.
How precious it all is.

There is no distance to the divine.
There is no distance to the divine.

I wish you love.
I wish you peace.
I wish you Grace.

May we be love.
May we be peace.
May we be Grace.
